Why Doesn't Pay-Per-Click Advertising Work? About twice a day I get a note from people saying I'm doing a ton of advertising with pay-per-click search engines. I get 1,000 people a day to my site and nobody buys. What is wrong with my site? Often, NOTHING is wrong with the site. The real problem seems to be with PPC search engines. While they work magnificently for some businesses, they work poorly for others. For some reason nobody has yet explained to me, the masses of folks who come from PPC's have a 15 to 20 second look around your site, then leave without buying anything. There are three solutions to this problem. 1. Instead of going for the order, try to get PPC traffic to sign up for your newsletter or email updates. People who have never heard of you before are unlikely to buy. People who have been reading your newsletter for weeks are much more likely to place their order. 2. Sell an item or service people buy on impulse. Things that are cheap and "feel good" have the advantage. 3. Stop spending all your ad budget on PPC's. Spread the money around a bit.
